NKU DEFEATS UA-HUNTSVILLE, 88-52

No. 1 Norse (8-0) roll into Recorder Classic title game

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Michelle Cottrell scored 20 points Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team defeated the University of Alabama-Huntsville, 88-52, in the first round of the Community Recorder Classic in Regents Hall.

Connie Myers added a career-high 16 points and nine rebounds as NKU - ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll - improved to 8-0. NKU also extended its home win streak to 31 consecutive games with the victory. The Norse have not lost at home since Jan. 8, 2000, when Bellarmine posted a 76-72 win against NKU in Regents Hall.

Cottrell, a graduate of Boone County High School, needs just 13 points to pass Peggy Vincent (1,883 points) and become the Norse’s all-time career scoring leader. She enters Friday night’s championship game of the Community Recorder Classic with 1,871 career points.

Kristin Polosky scored 15 points for NKU, which made 10 of 16 three-point attempts. Bridget Flanagan (11 points) and Amy Mobley (10 points) also scored in double figures for NKU. Mobley also grabbed 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

In the other first-round game Thursday, Delta State University (4-2) posted a 94-59 win over Florida Southern College (6-3). NKU will meet Delta State in the championship game at 7:45 p.m. Friday night in Regents Hall.
