NKU POSTS 89-47 WIN OVER KENDALL

Norse advance to Community Recorder Classic championship

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Sharell Snardon scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team defeated Kendall (Ill.) College, 89-47, in the first round of the Community Recorder Classic in Regents Hall.

NKU (5-3) jumped out to a 13-0 lead as Snardon scored six points in the first three minutes of the game. Snardon, a sophomore post player from Louisville, Ky., finished with 13 points in the first half as NKU built a 44-11 lead at the break.

NKU connected on 60.7 percent of its shots from the field in the first half and limited Kendall (3-12) to just 15.6 percent shooting before halftime. The Norse led by as many as 45 points in the second half and rolled to the victory.

Snardon, who leads the Great Lakes Valley Conference in rebounding at 10.3 rpg, recorded her fifth double-double of the season. She now has 10 double-doubles in her career.

Junior guard Nikki Perkins added a career-high 19 points for NKU, which is ranked No. 21 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. Perkins made 5-of-6 three-point attempts, and she added four assists.

Freshman guard Karyn Creager scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists for the Norse, and freshman forward Karmen Graham added a career-high 12 points. Freshman guard Betsey Clark came off the bench and scored a career-high eight points for NKU. 

NKU will face Fayetteville (N.C.) State University - a 69-65 winner over the University of Missouri-Rolla in the other first-round game - at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the championship game of the Community Recorder Classic.

NKU is seeking to win the Community Recorder Classic for the second straight season. A year ago, NKU defeated Carson-Newman College, 79-68, in the championship game.
