Norse women ink standout Cincinnati prep player

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball program has signed one of the top prep players in Cincinnati to a national letter of intent.

Cassie Brannen, a 6-foot-1 senior forward from Mount Notre Dame High School, has signed with NKU and will play for the Norse next season. As a junior at Mount Notre Dame, Brannen averaged 8.6 points per game and helped the Cougars win the Ohio Division I state championship.

Mount Notre Dame finished with a 28-0 record in 2003-04, and the Cougars return three of their top four scorers this season. Mount Notre Dame also became the first Girls’ Greater Cincinnati League Scarlet division team to win the Ohio big-school title last season.

Brannen was named second team All-GGCL as a junior, and she also earned honorable mention accolades on the Southwest Ohio All-District Team. Her single-game highs at Mount Notre Dame are 17 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocked shots.

Brannen also scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds during a district victory against Mother of Mercy High School last season.
