NKU ADVANCES TO GLVC SEMIFINALS

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Sophomore outside hitter Bethany Gastright had 13 kills and three service aces Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated Saint Joseph’s College, 15-13, 15-11, 15-4, in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in Regents Hall.

Senior outside hitter Jenny Jeremiah added 12 kills as NKU improved to 28-1 with the victory and extended its winning streak to 21 consecutive matches. The Norse will meet Southern Illinois at Edwardsville - which defeated Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday - in the GLVC semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Junior setter Bobbi Casey collected 32 assists and three service aces, and sophomore middle hitter Denise Barhorst added six kills and a .417 hitting percentage. NKU has now won 49 consecutive matches against GLVC opponents in Regents Hall dating back to Sept. 3, 1995, when Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne defeated NKU in five games.

The victory extended NKU’s overall homecourt winning streak to 30 consecutive matches, which dates back to 1997. The last team to beat NKU in Regents Hall was the University of New Haven, which knocked off the Norse in four games on Nov. 9, 1997.
