NKU WINS 3RD STRAIGHT GLVC CHAMPIONSHIP
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Sophomore outside hitter Bethany Gastright had 16 kills, 10 digs and a .577 hitting percentage Saturday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne, 15-13, 15-8, 15-2, in the championship match of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in Regents Hall.
Senior outside hitter Jenny Jeremiah added 12 kills and 15 digs as NKU captured its third consecutive GLVC championship. Sophomore middle hitter Julie Hathorn also played a key role for the Norse with eight kills and a .583 hitting percentage. Junior setter Bobbi Casey added 40 assists and eight digs as NKU improved to 30-1 with the victory and extended its winning streak to 23 consecutive matches.
Pairings for the NCAA Division II Tournament will be announced Sunday night, and NKU is expected to be the No. 1 seed and host for the Great Lakes Regional.
NKU has now won 51 consecutive matches against GLVC opponents in Regents Hall dating back to Sept. 3, 1995, when IPFW defeated NKU in five games.
The victory extended NKUs overall homecourt winning streak to 32 consecutive matches, which dates back to 1997. The last team to beat NKU in Regents Hall was the University of New Haven, which knocked off the Norse in four games on Nov. 9, 1997.
