NKU DEFEATS USI TO EXTEND WIN STREAK TO 19

 

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Jenny Jeremiah and Bethany Gastright both had 17 kills Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated the University of Southern Indiana, 15-11, 7-15, 15-7, 15-5, at PAC Arena.

Tara Bach and Bobbi Casey both added three service aces as NKU improved to 26-1 overall, 14-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse have now won 19 consecutive matches since their only loss of the season to Grand Valley State on Sept. 10. The longest single-season winning streak in school history is 27, set by the 1995 team that finished 30-3.

Jeremiah picked up 21 digs and Bach added 19 digs for the Norse. Casey had 53 assists and 13 digs for NKU, which is ranked No. 3 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll.

Denise Barhorst recorded 11 kills and two blocks for NKU, and Jessica Buroker added 10 kills and 16 digs.

NKU will visit Owensboro, Ky., for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday against Kentucky Wesleyan College. The Norse have already clinched homecourt advantage in the GLVC Tournament and will open up this Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. against the No. 4 seed from the GLVC Blue Division.

Wisconsin-Parkside, Lewis or Saint Joseph’s are currently the three teams from the Blue Division that could be the No. 4 seed.
