NKU IMPROVES TO 8-2 WITH WIN OVER UMSL

12th-ranked Norse extend Regents Hall winning streak to 39

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Junior outside hitter Bethany Gastright recorded 21 kills and eight digs Saturday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 15-13, 15-8, 15-12, in Regents Hall.

Senior middle hitter Jessica Buroker added 16 kills and a .424 hitting percentage as NKU won its 39th consecutive match in Regents Hall. The last team to beat NKU in Regents Hall was the University of New Haven, which knocked off the Norse in four games on Nov. 9, 1997.

NKU also has won 53 consecutive matches against GLVC opponents in Regents Hall dating back to Sept. 3, 1995, when IPFW defeated the Norse in five games. NKU owns 36 consecutive victories against GLVC opponents after Saturday’s win against UMSL.

The last time NKU lost to a GLVC opponent was on the road at Southern Illinois at Edwardsville on Sept. 25, 1998, when the Cougars defeated the Norse in five games.

Junior middle hitter Julie Hathorn had 14 kills and a .462 hitting percentage for the Norse on Saturday, and senior setter Bobbi Casey added 51 assists and 13 digs. NKU, ranked 12th nationally in the Division II poll, is now 8-2 overall, 2-0 in the GLVC.
