NKU OPENS GLVC PLAY WITH VICTORY

12th-ranked Norse extend Regents Hall winning streak to 38 on Friday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Junior outside hitter Bethany Gastright had 13 kills and a .360 hitting percentage Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated Quincy University, 15-3, 15-7, 15-2, in Regents Hall.

Senior middle hitter Jessica Buroker added six kills and a .462 hitting percentage for NKU (7-2, 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference), which has now won 38 consecutive matches in Regents Hall. The last team to beat NKU in Regents Hall was the University of New Haven, which knocked off the Norse in four games on Nov. 9, 1997.

NKU also has won 52 consecutive matches against GLVC opponents in Regents Hall dating back to Sept. 3, 1995, when IPFW defeated the Norse in five games. NKU owns 35 consecutive victories against GLVC opponents after Friday’s win against Quincy.

The last time NKU lost to a GLVC opponent was on the road at Southern Illinois at Edwardsville on Sept. 25, 1998, when the Cougars defeated the Norse in five games.

Senior setter Bobbi Casey had 28 assists and four service aces for NKU, and freshman outside hitter Julie Wall added six kills and five digs. NKU is ranked No. 12 nationally in the Division II poll.
