No. 21 GVSU gives No. 3 Norse first loss |

MIDLAND, Mich. - Kathy Vis had 33 kills, four service aces and a .473 hitting percentage Friday night as the Grand Valley State University volleyball team defeated Northern Kentucky University, 7-15, 15-12, 15-8, 15-13, in a battle of teams ranked in the Division II Top 25. Carly Miller added 21 kills and 11 digs as No. 21 Grand Valley State (9-0) gave No. 3 NKU (5-1) its first loss of the season. A year ago, Grand Valley State handed NKU its only loss during the regular season with a victory over the Norse at Fort Wayne, Ind. Bethany Gastright led NKU with 19 kills, and Jessica Buroker added 14 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Bobbi Casey had 41 assists and 13 digs for the Norse, and Amy Ryan added 10 kills and 14 digs. Grand Valley State recorded 10 service aces and had 12 total team blocks. NKU finished with a .235 hitting percentage - compared to .193 for Grand Valley State - and five service aces. The Norse will play No. 12 Northwood (Mich.) at 1 p.m. Saturday, and later face unbeaten Ferris State (9-0) at 6 p.m.
