NKU TO HOST GLIAC/GLVC CROSSOVER TOURNEY

Big regional showdowns to be held in Regents Hall this weekend

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team will host the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Great Lakes Valley Conference Crossover Tournament this Friday and Saturday (Sept. 7-8) in Regents Hall.

Four of the top teams from the GLIAC (Grand Valley State, Northwood (Mich.), Northern Michigan and Ferris State) will square off against four of the top teams in the GLVC (NKU, Southern Indiana, Quincy and Lewis) during the two-day tournament. NKU will play its first match at 7 p.m. Friday against Grand Valley State.

The Norse, now 3-2 after splitting four matches in Florida last weekend, will also meet Northwood at 10 a.m. Saturday, and conclude the tournament with a 3 p.m. contest against Northern Michigan.

The GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament is key for each team because of the regional head-to-head matchups. The No. 1 seed in the Great Lakes Region will host the NCAA II Tournament in November, and teams from the GLIAC and GLVC comprise most of the Great Lakes Region.

GASTRIGHT NOW NO. 5 IN KILLS: NKU senior outside hitter Bethany Gastright moved into fifth place on the NKU all-time kills list last weekend with 1,220 career kills. Gastright, a Holy Cross High School graduate, has 71 kills this season.

AGAINST THE GLIAC/GLVC CROSSOVER FIELD: NKU was 0-2 against Grand Valley State last season. The Norse were 2-0 against Northern Michigan a year ago, and NKU was 0-1 against Northwood.

Northwood (8-0) enters the tournament ranked No. 8 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. NKU is ranked No. 19, and Northern Michigan (5-1) is ranked No. 21.
