Norse (5-4) hand Tigers (5-1) first loss of the season

GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Bethany Gastright had 27 kills and 10 digs Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated Georgetown (Ky.) College, 30-19, 30-28, 23-30, 30-25.

Gastright also added four service aces and a .424 hitting percentage as NKU (5-4 and ranked No. 23 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll) handed Georgetown (5-1) its first loss of the season. The Tigers are ranked No. 4 nationally in the NAIA poll.

Cammi Welter recorded 16 kills and 15 digs, and Kate O’Toole recorded 27 assists. Denise Barhorst added five block assists for the Norse, and Luisa Gomez had 10 digs.

The Norse will meet Saint Joseph’s College at 2 p.m. Saturday in Regents Hall to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play. NKU has won four consecutive GLVC championships.
