NKU TO HOST WVIAC/GLVC CROSSOVER

Norse play Wheeling Jesuit at 6 p.m. Friday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team will play host to the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Great Lakes Valley Conference Crossover Tournament this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 11-12) in Regents Hall.

NKU will face Wheeling Jesuit University at 6 p.m. Friday. The Norse will meet West Virginia Wesleyan College at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, and they will finish the tournament at 3 p.m. against Fairmont State College.

Maggie Pugh finished with 17 kills and a .389 hitting percentage Saturday as NKU defeated Saint Joseph’s College, 30-17, 30-23, 30-24, in Regents Hall. Kristin Koralewski recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs as the Norse improved to 8-7 overall, 5-2 in the GLVC.

FRESHMEN SHINE AGAINST SJC: Freshmen Mara Castillo and Lynne Fischesser gave NKU a huge lift in the victory over Saint Joseph’s. Castillo had four kills, four digs, a .600 hitting percentage and a block assist, while Fischesser added four kills, a .600 hitting percentage and a solo block.

TAYLOR ATOP THE GLVC: NKU junior setter Sara Taylor leads the GLVC in assists (13.35 apg), and she also has 19 service aces and 132 digs this season. The Louisville, Ky., native currently ranks No. 6 in Norse history with 1,918 career assists.

WELTER 6TH IN HITTING PERCENTAGE: NKU junior right-side hitter Cammi Welter is tied for sixth place in the GLVC in hitting percentage at .314. She ranks 11th in the GLVC with 42 total blocks (0.81 bpg). NKU’s Nicole Salisbury - who leads the Norse with 209 kills - ranks No. 7 in the GLVC in hitting percentage at .296.

INDY SNAPS NKU JINX: The University of Indianapolis stunned NKU in Regents Hall last Friday night with a four-game victory against the Norse. Prior to that match, NKU owned a 30-0 lead in the all-time series with the Greyhounds.
