NKU DEFEATS INDIANAPOLIS

Gastright has 16 kills as NKU improves to 22-5

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Junior outside hitter Bethany Gastright had 16 kills and 13 digs Tuesday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated the University of Indianapolis, 15-8, 15-9, 15-9, in Regents Hall.

Senior middle hitter Jessica Buroker added 15 kills, 14 digs and a .577 hitting percentage as NKU improved to 22-5 overall, 12-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse are now 28-0 all-time against Indianapolis.

Senior setter Bobbi Casey recorded 48 assists, 11 digs and two service aces for the Norse, and junior middle hitter Julie Hathorn had five service aces, 10 kills and eight digs. It marked the final regular-season match in Regents Hall for NKU head coach Mary Biermann, who announced in July that she will retire at the end of this season.

NKU will play at Saint Joseph’s College at 8 p.m. Friday night, and close the regular season at Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. If NKU wins both matches, the Norse will host the GLVC Tournament Nov. 9-11 in Regents Hall.

If Southern Indiana loses at either Missouri-St. Louis or Quincy this weekend, NKU will need just one victory in its final two matches to clinch the No. 1 seed.
