NKU EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO 17

Norse defeat UW-Parkside to improve to 21-4

KENOSHA, Wis. - Cammi Welter had 16 kills and 14 digs Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 30-18, 30-14, 28-30, 30-22.

Luisa Gomez added 14 kills and a .500 hitting percentage as NKU improved to 21-4 overall, 11-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Bethany Gastright picked up 13 kills and four service aces for NKU, which extended its win streak to 17.

The longest single-season win streak in Norse volleyball history is 27, set in 1995 when NKU won its final 27 matches of the season.

Gastright now has 1,567 career kills, which ranks No. 4 in NKU history. Jenny Jeremiah is NKU’s all-time career leader with 1,613 kills.

Denise Barhorst added nine kills, six block assists and a .500 hitting percentage for the Norse, and Sara Taylor finished with 30 assists.

The Norse, ranked No. 17 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, can wrap up the No. 1 seed in the GLVC Tournament with a victory at Lewis University on Saturday. If NKU is the top seed, the Norse will play host to the GLVC Tournament Nov. 8-10 in Regents Hall.
