LEWIS ENDS NKU’S HOME WIN STREAK

Flyers snap NKU’s home win streak at 46 consecutive matches

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Katie Gilman had 13 kills and a .353 hitting percentage Friday night as the Lewis University volleyball team defeated Northern Kentucky University, 15-9, 16-14, 15-7, in Regents Hall, snapping the Norse’s home win streak at 46 consecutive matches.

Lewis - which defeated NKU in three games earlier this season at Romeoville, Ill. - is now 15-7 overall, 7-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Prior to Friday, the last team to beat NKU in Regents Hall was the University of New Haven, which knocked off the Norse in four games on Nov. 9, 1997.

Lewis posted a .348 hitting as a team on Friday, and the Flyers recorded 25 blocks - compared to just seven for NKU - en route to the victory. Sarah Welles had nine kills and six blocks for the Flyers, and Sarah Beebe added 12 kills and eight blocks.

NKU was led by Bethany Gastright with 22 kills, and Jessica Buroker added 12 kills.

Prior to Friday, NKU had won 57 consecutive matches against GLVC opponents in Regents Hall dating back to Sept. 3,1995, when IPFW defeated the Norse in five games.

NKU, which is ranked No. 15 nationally in the Division II poll, will play host to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and New Haven at 5 p.m.
