Norse prepare for GLVC showdown with Lewis on Saturday

KENOSHA, Wis. - Cammi Welter had 25 kills, 20 digs and a .500 hitting percentage Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 30-27, 26-30, 30-25, 31-33, 15-9.

Maggie Pugh added 22 kills, five blocks and a .486 hitting percentage as NKU won its fifth consecutive match. The Norse improved to 12-7 overall, 6-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Nicole Salisbury finished with 13 kills and 12 digs, while Sara Taylor recorded a double-double with 72 assists and 12 digs. The Norse hit .304 as a team and improved to 15-0 all-time against Wisconsin-Parkside (11-8 overall, 4-4 GLVC).

NKU hit .263 in the fifth game, compared to just .130 for Wisconsin-Parkside. The Norse had just two hitting errors in the deciding game, and the Rangers converted eight of 23 attempts with five errors in the final game.

NKU will travel to Romeoville, Ill., at 3 p.m. Saturday to meet GLVC leader Lewis University (19-1 overall, 7-1 GLVC). Lewis defeated NKU in Regents Hall last month, but the Norse have won eight of the last nine matches on the Flyers’ home floor.

A year ago, NKU posted a 3-0 win at Lewis. The Norse lead the all-time series with Lewis, 20-11.
