HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Bethany Gastright had 17 kills, 13 digs and a .375 hitting percentage Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated Bellarmine University, 30-20, 30-17, 30-17, in Regents Hall. Denise Barhorst added 10 kills and a .389 hitting percentage for NKU (17-4), which extended its win streak to 13 with the non-Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Bellarmine. The two teams will meet next week at Louisville, Ky., in a match that will count in the GLVC standings. Gastright, a senior outside hitter from Holy Cross High School who also added five service aces Thursday, now has 1,496 career kills. She needs just four kills to become the fourth player in Norse volleyball history to record 1,500 career kills. Jenny Jeremiah is NKUs all-time career leader with 1,613 kills. Cammi Welter recorded eight kills for NKU, which is ranked No. 19 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. Kate OToole led the Norse with 23 assists. The Norse will close out the week Friday night at 7 p.m. with a match against Georgetown (Ky.) College in Regents Hall. |
