NKU ADVANCES TO GLVC TITLE MATCH |

Norse (26-4) to meet Southern Indiana for GLVC crown |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Bethany Gastright had 14 kills and a .333 hitting percentage Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated Quincy (Ill.) University, 30-28, 30-23, 30-27, in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in Regents Hall. Cammi Welter added 13 kills and 12 digs as NKU - winners of 22 consecutive matches - improved to 26-4. The Norse are ranked No. 14 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll and No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region poll. Denise Barhorst recorded 11 kills, four blocks and a .474 hitting percentage for the Norse, who rallied from a 27-24 deficit in the first game to win by a 30-28 score. NKU also rallied from a 16-7 deficit in the third game and closed out the match by outscoring Quincy 23-11. NKU, which is seeking its fifth consecutive GLVC championship, will meet No. 3 seed University of Southern Indiana - a 3-1 winner over Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in the other semifinal - at noon Saturday for the GLVC title. The winner of Saturdays match will receive the GLVCs automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. |
