NKU ADVANCES TO GLVC SEMIFINALS

Norse defeat SIUE in first round of GLVC Tournament

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Bethany Gastright had 21 kills and a .348 hitting percentage Thursday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, 15-10, 15-8, 15-11, in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at PAC Arena. Julie Hathorn added six service aces and nine kills as second-seeded NKU improved to 24-6 with the win over No. 7 seed SIUE (11-18). The Norse will meet No. 3 seed Lewis University - which defeated No. 6 seed University of Indianapolis in another first-round match Thursday - at 6 p.m. Friday in the GLVC semifinals. Jessica Buroker had 14 kills, 10 digs and a .444 hitting percentage, and Camilla Welter added 12 kills for the Norse. NKU has won three consecutive GLVC championships, and the Norse have captured four of the past five GLVC titles. NKU is ranked No. 20 nationally in the latest Division II poll.
