HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Cammi Welter had 15 kills, a .423 hitting percentage and 15 digs Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 30-18, 30-23, 30-16, in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in Regents Hall. Bethany Gastright added 12 kills as NKU - winners of 21 consecutive matches - improved to 25-4. The Norse are ranked No. 14 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll and No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region poll. Denise Barhorst had eight kills for the top-seeded Norse, who hit .351 as a team. Julie Hathorn added seven kills and three service aces, and Sara Taylor had 42 assists. NKU, which is seeking its fifth consecutive GLVC championship, will meet No. 5 seed Quincy University at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. Quincy defeated No. 4 seed Lewis University in four games on Thursday. In the other semifinal on Friday, No. 2 seed Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville will meet No. 3 seed University of Southern Indiana at 4 p.m. The GLVC championship match is scheduled for noon Saturday. |
