NKU WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT GLVC TITLE |

Norse receive automatic berth in NCAA Tournament |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Bethany Gastright had 20 kills and a .462 hitting percentage Saturday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated the University of Southern Indiana, 30-17, 30-26, 30-24, in the championship match of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in Regents Hall. Denise Barhorst added 10 kills and a .588 hitting percentage as NKU won its fifth consecutive GLVC title. Cammi Welter had 10 kills as NKU - winners of 23 consecutive matches - improved to 27-4. The Norse are ranked No. 14 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll and No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region poll. As a result of Saturdays victory, NKU will receive the GLVCs automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Pairings for the NCAA Division II Tournament will be announced Sunday night, and the Great Lakes Regional is expected to be hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. Grand Valley State (26-4) is ranked No. 1 in the latest Great Lakes Region poll, and the Lakers own a 3-0 victory over NKU in Regents Hall earlier this season. Findlay (28-6) is No. 2 in the latest Great Lakes Region poll, and Northern Michigan (22-10) is No. 3. |
