NKU WIN STREAK AT 20 AFTER VICTORY AT KWC

 

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Sophomore outside hitter Bethany Gastright had 20 kills Saturday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College, 15-3, 15-7, 15-8, extending the Norse’s winning streak to 20 consecutive matches.

Senior outside hitter Jenny Jeremiah added 10 kills as NKU improved to 27-1 overall, 15-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse own 20 consecutive victories since their only loss of the season to Grand Valley State on Sept. 10. The longest single-season winning streak in school history is 27, set by the 1995 team that finished 30-3.

Denise Barhorst had nine kills for NKU, which is ranked No. 3 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. NKU will play host to the GLVC Tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday (Nov. 11-13) in Regents Hall.

The Norse will open up this Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. against Saint Joseph’s College, which is the No. 4 seed from the GLVC Blue Division.

The winner of the NKU/Saint Joseph’s match will advance to Friday night’s 7:30 p.m. GLVC semifinals against the winner of the Southern Illinois at Edwardsville/Missouri-St. Louis match.

GLVC TOURNAMENT MATCHUPS: Bellarmine College will face the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at noon Thursday in the opening match of the GLVC Tournament, followed at 2:30 p.m. by the Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville/University of Missouri-St. Louis match.

Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne, the No. 1 seed from the GLVC Blue Division, will face the University of Southern Indiana at 5 p.m. on Thursday. The NKU/Saint Joseph’s match will begin at 7:30 p.m.

All matches will be played in Regents Hall on the NKU campus.
