NKU FAVORED IN GLVC PRESEASON POLL

Norse attempting to win fourth consecutive GLVC championship

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team has been selected as the 2000 preseason favorite to capture the Great Lakes Valley Conference Blue Division championship by the league coaches.

NKU, which posted a 33-2 record last season en route to the NCAA Division II Final Four, is looking to win its fourth consecutive GLVC championship. The Norse return four starters, including first team All-America middle hitter Jessica Buroker, to the lineup in 2000.

Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne was picked No. 2 in the Blue Division, followed by Lewis, Saint Joseph’s, Indianapolis and Wisconsin-Parkside.

Southern Illinois at Edwardsville was picked as the preseason favorite in the GLVC’s Green Division. The Cougars were followed by Missouri-St. Louis, Bellarmine, Quincy, Southern Indiana and Kentucky Wesleyan.

NKU competed in the GLVC Green Division last season, but the Norse were moved into the Blue Division this year. SIUE moved from the Blue Division into the Green Division this season.

NKU has won 51 consecutive home matches against GLVC opponents dating back to Sept. 3, 1995, when IPFW defeated the Norse in five games in Regents Hall. NKU owns 34 consecutive wins overall in Regents Hall.

NKU will open up the 2000 season on Aug. 26 with a road match at Bellarmine.
