Gastright records 22 kills as Chia wins NKU coaching debut

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Bethany Gastright recorded 22 kills Tuesday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated the University of Charleston (W. Va.), 34-32, 28-30, 30-27, 30-18, in Regents Hall.

Cammi Welter added 14 kills and 12 digs as the Norse gave first-year head coach Carlos Chia a victory in his NKU debut. Luisa Gomez had 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, and Sara Taylor picked up 39 assists.

Julie Hathorn added nine kills and five block assists for the Norse, and Amber Timmons had four service aces and 15 digs.

NKU, ranked No. 20 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., this weekend to participate in the University of North Florida Labor Day Classic. The Norse will meet Florida Southern College and Barry (Fla.) University this Friday.
