Hathorn helps rally Norse past Tigers


HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Junior middle hitter Julie Hathorn had 16 kills, four service aces and six blocks Tuesday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team rallied to defeat Georgetown (Ky.) College, 9-15, 15-12, 15-12, 18-16, in Regents Hall.

Hathorn also had a .424 hitting percentage as NKU - ranked No. 3 nationally in the Division II poll - improved to 2-0 and extended its home winning streak to 35 consecutive matches. The Norse have not lost a match in Regents Hall since the 1997 season.

NKU senior middle hitter Jessica Buroker had 19 kills, 22 digs and a .302 hitting percentage, and junior outside hitter Bethany Gastright added 16 kills and 18 digs.

Georgetown, which dropped to 2-3 with the loss, was led by Susan Clements’ 25 kills and 25 digs. Noelle Nageleisen added 20 kills and 31 digs for the Tigers.

The Norse will travel to Marquette, Mich., this Friday to meet Northern Michigan University at 7 p.m.
