NKU PLAYERS NAMED ALL-REGION

Owens, Lewallen earn All-Great Lakes Region honors

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University softball players Megan Owens and Krystal Lewallen have earned second team All-Great Lakes Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Owens, a sophomore catcher from Fairfield, Ohio, hit .327 with a team-leading 34 runs batted in this season. Owens also hit three home runs, collected 12 doubles and led NKU with a .459 slugging percentage.

Lewallen, a freshman pitcher from Crestwood, Ky., posted a 16-9 record this season with a 0.82 earned run average. Lewallen ranked No. 1 in the GLVC in strikeouts with 190, and she had seven shutouts this season.

Lewallen also was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year this spring.

NKU tied a school record with 36 victories this season and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the second straight year. The Norse finished with a 36-17 record.
