Norse improve to 16-9 with sweep |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Emily Breitholle and Sarah Newland each tossed one-hit shutouts Tuesday as the Northern Kentucky University softball team swept a doubleheader from Kentucky State University by scores of 9-0 and 10-0 at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field. Breitholle recorded the victory in the first game and picked up 10 strikeouts to lead the Norse, who improved to 16-9 with the two wins. Stephanie Leimbach collected three hits and scored three runs to key the offense, while teammates Heather Cotner and Crystal Wilson each added two hits. In the nightcap, Newland recorded nine strikeouts as NKU completed the sweep. The Norse scored nine runs in the fourth inning to coast to the victory. Megan Owens and Shaunta Mitchell both drove in three runs to lead the Norse. Cotner and Angie Lindeman each scored twice for NKU, which has won nine of its last 10 games. NKU will play host to Bellarmine University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field.
