HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Megan Owens hit a home run and drove in two runs Friday as the Northern Kentucky University softball team defeated Quincy University, 8-0, to complete a doubleheader sweep at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field. Owens belted a two-run homer in the first inning to give the Norse a 2-0 lead, and NKU pitcher Krystal Lewallen held Quincy to just three hits en route to picking up her 14th victory of the season. Lewallen, a freshman and a graduate of South Oldham High School, now has seven shutouts this season. In the opener, NKU rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the first inning to roll past Quincy, 12-4. Three players - Owens, Amanda Davidson and Crystal Wilson - each had three RBI to lead the Norse. Heather Brosnan added two RBI for NKU, while teammate Heather Cotner went 3-for-4 and scored twice. Sophomore pitcher Emily Breitholle improved to 10-5 with the victory. NKU is now 29-11 overall, 13-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Quincy dropped to 7-23 overall, 2-10 in the GLVC. NKU will meet Marian (Ind.) College at noon Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader. |
