NKU PREPARES FOR BUSY WEEK

Norse play Georgetown, Quincy and Marian this week

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University softball team will hit the road for Georgetown, Ky., on Wednesday to meet Georgetown College at 3:30 p.m.

The Norse, now 25-11 overall after going 3-2 at the Great Lakes Region Showdown at Battle Creek, Mich., last week, will also play host to Quincy University at 3 p.m. Friday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader. In addition, NKU will meet Marian (Ind.) College at noon Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader.

Amanda Davidson’s run-scoring single in the eighth inning Sunday drove in Crystal Wilson from third base and gave NKU a 2-1 win over Ashland University. Norse freshman pitcher Krystal Lewallen picked up the complete-game victory and recorded 11 strikeouts in that game.

Lewallen, now 12-5 this season, leads the GLVC in earned run average (0.65 ERA) and strikeouts (137). She is also looking to become just the second pitcher in NKU history to record 20 victories in a season.

A year ago, Emily Breitholle posted a 20-5 record and is currently the only 20-game winner in Norse softball history. Breitholle owns an 8-5 record this season and a 1.34 ERA. She also has 57 strikeouts in 2003.

Sophomore outfielder Stephanie Leimbach leads NKU in hitting with a .344 batting average. Leimbach also has scored a team-leading 19 runs and is No. 1 on the team with 42 hits.

Sophomore first baseman Angie Lindeman is batting .327 with 26 RBI and seven doubles. Wilson is batting .282 with six doubles and 15 runs scored.

NKU is 11-3 in the GLVC and is currently in third place in the league standings. Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville leads the GLVC with a 10-2 record, while Lewis University is 8-2 in the GLVC.

NKU split with SIUE earlier this season, and the Norse will visit Lewis on April 27.
