LEWIS SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST NKU
Norse now 16-15 after losing twice on Sunday
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Pina Fricanos pinch-hit RBI double in the top of the ninth inning Sunday snapped a 1-1 tie and gave Lewis University a 2-1 victory over Northern Kentucky University in the second game of a doubleheader at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field.
Fricanos RBI double enabled Lewis to sweep the doubleheader and improve to 30-4 overall, 10-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Freshman pitcher Emily Granath, who had 13 strikeouts, picked up the victory for Lewis - which is ranked No. 1 in the Great Lakes Region poll. NKUs Jamie Moore took the loss and had six strikeouts.
Lewis won the opener, 4-2, as pitcher Sarah Van Gorp hit a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning to snap a 2-2 tie. NKUs Kerry McKee led the Norse offense with a two-run triple.
NKU is now 16-15 overall, 4-7 in the GLVC.
