UMSL DEFEATS NKU, 5-4 IN 14 INNINGS

Norse eliminated from GLVC Tournament by Missouri-St. Louis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Allison Mauer’s two-out single scored Kathleen Rogoz in the bottom of the 14th inning Saturday as the University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team defeated Northern Kentucky University, 5-4, in an elimination game in the losers’ bracket of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

NKU, which finished the season with a 25-24 record, held a 4-3 lead with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but an RBI single by Sara Mauck scored Shannon Leahy and forced extra innings.

Junior pitcher Kim Bina relieved NKU starter Jamie Moore in the first inning after UMSL bolted to a 3-0 lead and allowed the Riverwomen just two runs over the next 13 innings. Freshman second baseman Amanda Davidson had three hits for the Norse.
