NKU PREPARES FOR GLVC TOURNAMENT
Norse to meet No. 2 seed Lewis at noon this Friday
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University softball team will travel to Romeoville, Ill., this Friday to meet Lewis University at noon (EST) in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
NKU, 23-20 overall, earned the No. 7 seed in the GLVC Tournament with a conference record of 7-10 in the regular season. Lewis is currently 43-7 overall, 16-4 in the GLVC. The Flyers are the No. 2 seed in the GLVC Tournament.
NKU and Lewis met twice in the regular season, and the Flyers swept a doubleheader at Highland Heights, Ky., on April 9. Lewis won the first game, 4-2, and later took the nightcap by a 2-1 score.
Prior to the GLVC Tournament, NKU will travel to Bowling Green, Ky., to meet Western Kentucky University on Wednesday afternoon.
NKU junior pitcher Jamie Moore owns a 10-5 record with four shutouts, and she has a 2.01 earned run average. Junior pitcher Kim Bina has a 6-9 record, but she owns the teams lowest ERA at 1.73.
Junior outfielder Joanna Doerner leads the team in hitting with a .341 batting average. Doerner leads the team with 47 hits and 10 doubles.
Junior third baseman Kerry McKee has hit an NKU single-season record six home runs this spring and has 24 runs batted in. Sophomore first baseman Krista Eldridge leads NKU in runs scored (31) and is batting .281 with four home runs and 24 RBI. Freshman outfielder Jessica Trinkle has scored 27 runs and is batting .291, and senior outfielder Holly Trauth is hitting .304 with 18 runs scored.
