NKU TRAVELS TO IPFW ON SATURDAY

Norse also play at Saint Joseph’s on Sunday

 

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University softball team will travel to Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne on Saturday for a 1 p.m. Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.

NKU will also play a doubleheader at Saint Joseph’s College at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Norse, now 17-16 overall, 5-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, are looking to clinch a berth in the upcoming GLVC Tournament.

The top eight teams in the standings will qualify for the GLVC Tournament, and NKU is currently in eighth place.

The Norse split a doubleheader at the University of Indianapolis on Wednesday, losing the opener 5-4 and winning the second game, 8-0.

NKU junior third baseman Kerry McKee hit a pair of home runs in the second game to lead the Norse past Indianapolis. McKee is No. 1 on the team in home runs (4) and runs batted in (20). Junior right fielder Joanna Doerner collected five hits during the doubleheader at Indianapolis and leads the team in batting average (.304).

Junior pitcher Jamie Moore owns a 6-4 record and a 2.59 earned run average. Moore also has two shutouts this season. Senior pitcher Suzi Parkinson is 6-4 with a 2.44 ERA, and she leads NKU with three shutouts. Junior pitcher Kim Bina leads NKU with a 1.82 ERA and 51 strikeouts. Bina tossed the two-hit shutout against Indianapolis in the second game on Wednesday.
