Male High School’s Snardon to attend NKU

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball head coach Nancy Winstel announced Thursday that Louisville Male High School standout Sharell Snardon has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball with the Norse.

Snardon, a 5-foot-11 forward, averaged 16.5 points and 10 rebounds per game as a senior for the Bulldogs. She earned All-Tournament honors during the 7th Region Tournament as Male finished with a 14-12 record.

As a junior, Snardon helped Male post a 21-9 record.

“Sharell is an outstanding player, and we’re extremely excited with her decision to attend Northern Kentucky University,” Winstel said. “She is a very good inside player, and Sharell is going to continue to improve.”

NKU posted a 26-7 record this past season and advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the third time in four years. The Norse, who captured the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular-season championship, lose three starters from that team.

“We are going to have to replace three very good players who graduate, and two of them played in the post. There will definitely be an opportunity for Sharell to help us next season,” Winstel said.

One of the graduating players is three-time All-American Michelle Cottrell, who earned GLVC Player of the Year honors three times. Cottrell also was named National Player of the Year twice by Division II Bulletin.
