NKU TO MEET UWP IN GLVC 1ST ROUND

NKU seeded No. 5 at GLVC Tournament

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University softball team will compete at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament this weekend, and the Norse will meet the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in the first round Friday at 10 a.m. in Kenosha, Wis.

NKU (27-23 overall, 13-9 GLVC) is the No. 5 seed in the GLVC Tournament, and Wisconsin-Parkside (28-18, 14-8 GLVC) is the No. 4 seed. NKU split a doubleheader at Wisconsin-Parkside last Saturday, winning the first game, 5-4, and losing the nightcap, 5-4.

Crystal Wilson’s fifth-inning grand slam was the difference for NKU in the first game, but Wisconsin-Parkside earned the split by winning the nightcap. Wilson leads NKU in hitting with a .325 batting average, and she is No. 1 on the team with 29 runs scored. Wilson also has four triples this season.

Kristin Koors is batting .320 with three home runs and 24 runs batted in. Krista Eldridge is batting .312 with three home runs, 21 RBI and a team-leading 13 doubles.

Senior pitcher Kim Bina owns a 13-9 record and a 1.47 earned run average. The NKU single-season record for wins is 15, held by both Lisa Cornett and Amy Serraino. Bina, who also has 141 strikeouts this season, needs two victories this weekend to tie the NKU single-season win record.

Lewis University (45-10 overall, 19-3 GLVC) is the No. 1 seed in the GLVC Tournament. Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (34-13, 17-5 GLVC) is the No. 2 seed, and the University of Southern Indiana (34-15, 16-6 GLVC) is the No. 3 seed.
