Wilson hits grand slam to pace NKU to win

KENOSHA, Wis. - Crystal Wilson hit a grand slam in the fifth inning Saturday as the Northern Kentucky University softball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 5-4, in the first game of a doubleheader.

Wisconsin-Parkside rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat NKU, 5-4, in the second game to gain a split of the doubleheader.

NKU is now 27-21 overall, 13-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Wisconsin-Parkside is 26-18, 12-8 in the GLVC.

NKU trailed 4-1 going into the fifth inning in the opener, but Wilson’s grand slam gave the Norse a 5-4 lead. Jamie Moore held the Rangers scoreless the final three innings and picked up the complete-game win.

In the second game, NKU took a 4-3 lead into the final inning. The Rangers, however, scored a pair of unearned runs in their final at-bat to pull out the win.

NKU will complete its road trip with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Lewis University on Sunday. The Norse will then play in the GLVC Tournament next weekend at Kenosha, Wis.
