NKU RALLIES FOR SPLIT WITH SJC

Bina improves record to 13-5 with victory in second game

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University softball team scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday to rally past Saint Joseph’s College, 5-4, in the second game of a doubleheader.

NKU, which dropped a 3-0 decision to Saint Joseph’s in the opener Saturday, trailed 4-2 going into the bottom of the sixth in the second game. A two-run throwing error allowed NKU to tie the score at 4-4, and Molly Fachman’s RBI ground out drove in pinch-runner Jamie Moore with the go-ahead run.

NKU senior pitcher Kim Bina retired Saint Joseph’s in order in the top of the seventh to pick up her 13th win of the season. Bina, who has 14 complete games this season, is now 13-5. She needs just three more wins to set the Norse single-season record for victories (15 is the current record, held by both Lisa Cornett and Amy Serraino).

NKU is now 24-18 overall, 12-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
