Mackson throws one-hitter at Norse |

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Jennifer Mackson hurled a one-hit shutout Thursday as the Grand Valley State University softball team defeated Northern Kentucky University, 1-0, in the first round of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament. Grand Valley State (42-10) scored the game’s only run in the fifth inning on Bobbi Conner’s sacrifice fly. That was all the Lakers would need as Mackson picked up 10 strikeouts. NKU (36-12) also received a strong pitching performance from freshman Emily Breitholle, who allowed just an unearned run and four hits. The Norse, seeded No. 3 in the Great Lakes Region, will meet Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville at noon Friday in a losers’ bracket game. |
