NKU DEFEATS WEST LIBERTY STATE, 5-2

Norse improve to 30-2 with non-conference victory

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Sophomore pitcher Krystal Lewallen improved to 18-1 this spring and finished with nine strikeouts Tuesday as the Northern Kentucky University softball team posted a 5-2 win over West Liberty (W. Va.) State College at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field.

Angie Lindeman was 3-for-3 with a double and triple for NKU, which is now 30-2. It marked the third straight year that the Norse have reached the 30-win plateau.

Sara Becker hit a two-run homer to key a four-run fourth inning for the Norse. Becky Napier added an RBI double in that inning, while teammate Heather Cotner contributed a run-scoring triple.

NKU is closing in on its single-season record for wins. The current NKU mark is 36 victories, set in both 2002 and ’03.

The Norse will play host to West Virginia State College in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Thursday.
