FINDLAY DEFEATS NKU, 2-0

NKU to face 15th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday

 

WILDER, Ky. - Zach Grieshop and Luis Cortell both scored goals Saturday night as the University of Findlay posted a 2-0 victory over the Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team at the Town & Country Sports Complex in the first round of the NKU Soccer Tournament.

Grieshop scored the first goal of the match at the 27:13 mark on a penalty kick. Cortell added a breakaway goal at the 57:29 mark to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead, and goalie Chris Black and the Findlay (1-1) defense held NKU (0-3) scoreless the rest of the way.

On Sunday, NKU will conclude the two-day tournament with a 4 p.m. match against West Virginia Wesleyan College, which is ranked No. 15 nationally in the Division II poll. West Virginia Wesleyan defeated NKU in overtime last season by a 3-2 score at Buckhannon, W. Va.

West Virginia Wesleyan rallied from a 2-0 deficit on Saturday to knock off Lincoln Memorial University, 3-2 in overtime, in the other first-round match.
