RENSSELAER, Ind. - Kevin Crone scored a pair of goals Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University mens soccer team defeated Saint Josephs College, 5-0. Greg Colston, Eric Kleiman and Jeremy Robertson also added goals for NKU, which improved to 7-4 overall and remained in sole possession of first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 4-0 record. Freshman goalie Nate Madden picked up the shutout for NKU and had six saves. Colston opened the scoring for NKU at the 17:18 mark with a goal that was assisted by Kleiman. Later in the first half, Crone found the net with a header off a pass from Jeff Anderson to give the Norse a 2-0 lead at halftime. Kleiman scored a goal on a breakaway 10 minutes into the second half to make it 3-0, and Crone sealed the Norse victory with a goal at the 63:10 mark. Robertson scored a goal off an assist from Nathan Gindele at the 76:08 mark. NKU will hit the road next weekend to meet a pair of nationally ranked opponents in No. 12 University of Wisconsin-Parkside (4:30 p.m. Friday) and No. 3 Lewis University (3:30 p.m. Sunday). If NKU can win both of those matches, the Norse will be in control of the GLVC standings and in position to earn the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament. |
