SIUE EDGES NKU IN OVERTIME

Gibbs’ goal in OT gives SIUE 2-1 win

WILDER, Ky. - Brandon Gibbs scored an unassisted goal 13 minutes into overtime Sunday to give Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville a 2-1 win over Northern Kentucky University at the Town & Country Sports Complex. Gibbs blasted in a shot from about 25 yards out at the 103:05 mark as SIUE snapped NKU’s winning streak at five. SIUE improved to 8-5-1 overall, 6-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU is now 5-8, 4-3 in the GLVC. NKU took a 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the match when Jeff Anderson scored on a breakaway. SIUE tied the match 23 minutes into the second half when Kevin Corrigan headed in a ball off an assist from Gibbs. NKU will return to action Friday with a 2 p.m. match at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. SIUE 2, NKU 1 (ot) GOALS: NKU-Anderson. SIUE-Corrigan, Gibbs.
