LEXINGTON, Ky. - Jared Matthews scored a goal 24 minutes into the match Thursday afternoon as the Transylvania University mens soccer team defeated Northern Kentucky University, 1-0. Jim Halfhill picked up the shutout for Transylvania, which improved to 12-5-2. NKU dropped to 7-11 with the defeat. The Norse have qualified for the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and will travel to Kenosha, Wis., next Wednesday for a 2 p.m. (EST) match against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. NKU enters the GLVC Tournament as the No. 5 seed, and Wisconsin-Parkside is the No. 4 seed. The winner will advance to the GLVC semifinals at Romeoville, Ill., to play top-seeded Lewis University on Nov. 4. TU 1, NKU 0 GOALS: TU-Matthews. SHUTOUT: Halfhill (3 saves).
