NKU freshman named GLVC Player of the Week

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Kyle Roberts has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in men’s soccer.

Roberts, a freshman midfielder, scored two goals Saturday as NKU upset ninth-ranked Lewis University, 2-0, at Wilder, Ky. Roberts scored the first goal 18 minutes into the game, and he added his second goal in the 88th minute to seal the victory over the defending GLVC champions.

Going into that game, Roberts had scored just one goal the entire season. He is a 2004 graduate of Centerville (Ohio) High School.

NKU owns a 12-3-2 overall record, and the Norse will play at the University of Indianapolis on Wednesday. NKU can wrap up a first-round home game in the GLVC Tournament with a victory over Indianapolis.

If the Norse win, they will play host to a GLVC Tournament game at noon this Sunday at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

NKU is also four wins shy of tying its single-season record of 16, which was set by the 1995 team. The Norse finished 16-4-2 that year.
