EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Jeff Anderson scored a goal and had an assist Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University mens soccer team defeated the University of Southern Indiana, 3-1. Kevin Morath and Nathan Gindele also scored goals for NKU, which improved to 10-7 overall, 7-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament and play host to No. 5 Quincy (Ill.) University at 1 p.m. on Oct. 31 at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. If NKU defeats Quincy in the first round, the Norse will travel to Edwardsville, Ill., to meet top-seeded Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in the GLVC semifinals. SIUE is 14-1-2 overall, 9-0-1 in the GLVC. Lewis University can also finish with a 9-0-1 GLVC record with a win against Saint Josephs College on Tuesday, but SIUE has clinched the top seed due to goal differential in GLVC competition. NKU took a 1-0 lead just seven minutes into the match Sunday when Morath found the net for a goal. USI, however, tied the match at 1-1 just before halftime on a Matt Settles goal. Gindele broke the tie at the 51:38 mark with a goal that was assisted by Anderson. The Norse sealed the win at the 71:22 mark when Anderson scored a goal. NKU will close out the regular season at 3:30 p.m. next Sunday with a home match against the University of Missouri-Rolla.
