NKU DEFEATS INDY, 3-1

Norse stay in contention for GLVC Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS - The Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team scored three goals in the second half Friday to rally for a 3-1 win over the University of Indianapolis.

Chris Barwell, Nate McCall and Jeremy Robertson scored goals as NKU improved to 5-7-2 overall, 2-5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse can clinch a berth in the upcoming GLVC Tournament with road victories next week against Bellarmine University (noon on Oct. 25) and Kentucky Wesleyan College (1 p.m. on Oct. 27).

Indianapolis took a 1-0 lead 19 minutes into the match Friday when Tim Kershaw scored a goal that was assisted by Ben Smith. The Greyhounds held a 1-0 halftime advantage, setting the stage for NKU’s second-half scoring barrage.

Barwell tied the match at the 56:19 mark off an assist from Stephen Hahn. Nine minutes later, McCall gave NKU the lead after finding the back of the net off an assist from Kyle Winkler. It was McCall’s third goal of the season.

Robertson sealed the victory for the Norse at the 74:16 mark with a goal that was assisted by Mike Poole.
