HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University standout goalie Nate Madden has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year in mens soccer, the league office announced Wednesday. Madden, a graduate of Kettering Fairmont High School, posted 11 shutouts this season with a 0.53 goals against average. His play in the net helped NKU increase its win total from four last season to 12 this fall. NKU posted a 12-6-2 record this season and jumped into the national rankings for the first time since 1996. A year ago, the Norse finished 4-9-3. Madden is the third player in Norse history to receive the honor. Tom Derenthal earned the award in 1991, and he shared the honor with NKU teammate Todd Gruenwald in 1992. |
