Norse face must-win at Lewis next Saturday

KENOSHA, Wis. - Dustin Wagner and Ben Tommerup each scored goals Sunday as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men’s soccer team posted a 2-1 win over Northern Kentucky University at the Wood Road Field.

After Wisconsin-Parkside took a 2-0 lead 15 minutes into the second half, NKU’s Nadeem Al-Alami sliced the deficit to 2-1 with a goal at the 69:12 mark. The Norse, however, were unable to find the net for a tying goal and dropped to 4-8-3 overall, 2-4-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The Norse are tied with Bellarmine University and the University of Indianapolis for seventh place in the GLVC standings, and the top seven teams will qualify for the GLVC Tournament in November. Bellarmine, however, would earn the seventh and final spot in the GLVC Tournament if the three teams remain tied.

The Norse close out the regular season on Oct. 25 with a road match at Lewis University. In order to qualify for the GLVC Tournament, NKU will need a victory over Lewis and either a Bellarmine loss or tie against Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in the Knights’ GLVC finale.
