HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University mens soccer team will begin the 2002 season this Saturday at 1 p.m. against the University of Findlay at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. NKU posted a 10-9 overall record a year ago and finished fourth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 7-3 mark. The Norse later dropped a 3-2 decision to Quincy University in the first round of the GLVC Tournament. NKU features senior forward Jeff Anderson, a graduate of LaSalle High School in Cincinnati who earned first team All-GLVC honors last season after scoring nine goals and adding five assists. Anderson enters his final season at NKU with 27 career goals. Joaquin Palomeque, who scored two goals and had five assists last season, returns to the NKU lineup. Palomeque, who was hampered by injuries last season, will play center midfield this year. The NKU defense will feature seniors Kevin Morath and Tony Becker. Findlay finished with a 13-2-2 record last season and tied for second place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 4-2 slate. The Oilers hosted NKU a year ago and posted a 4-1 victory over the Norse. Findlay is ranked No. 15 nationally in the preseason Division II poll. In addition to playing Findlay, NKU will also meet Saginaw Valley State University at 2 p.m. on Sunday. |
