NKU TO HOST TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND

NKU to face 15th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday

 

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team will meet the University of Findlay at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky., in the first round of the NKU Soccer Tournament.

On Sunday, NKU will conclude the two-day tournament with a 4 p.m. match against West Virginia Wesleyan College, which is ranked No. 15 nationally in the Division II poll. West Virginia Wesleyan defeated NKU in overtime last season by a 3-2 score at Buckhannon, W. Va.

NKU fell to 0-2 last Sunday after losing to Rockhurst (Mo.), 2-1, in the Missouri-St. Louis Classic. Mike Gilchrist scored a goal at the 86:11 mark Sunday to give Rockhurst the victory.

Gilchrist’s goal came off an assist from Bill Lally and snapped a 1-1 tie with just over three minutes remaining in the match. NKU had tied the match at 1-1 at the 72:57 mark when Kevin Crone scored on a penalty kick, but Rockhurst (1-1) responded with Gilchrist’s score to win the match.

For the match, Rockhurst outshot the Norse by a 26-7 margin.
